What to do before hiring a flooring contractor?

You’ve finally decided to install timber flooring. Great. Whether you want a hardwood floor or a parquetry flooring, you’ll need a flooring contractor to install it for you. Unless you know how to install flooring yourself.

Finding the right flooring contractor

There are just so many flooring contractors in the market today. Most of them are promising one thing, great results. The question is, how many of them are telling the truth? You will never know until you hire them, but then, that’s a total waste of your money, time and effort! Not to mention, your flooring might get damaged even before its due date.

If you want to avoid all the hassles and the possible problems in the near future, here’s what to do before hiring a flooring contractor.

Get references

When looking for a right flooring contractor, ask for references. Ask to see floors which they have installed. Ask the owners, these questions:

  • Was the contractor honest, knowledgeable and timely?
  • What about the rate?
  • Was your friend happy with the results?

All of these are worthwhile information. Once you have a list, make sure that they have a license, insurance and other requirements needed by the law.

Once you have chosen a suitable candidate, get everything into writing.

Do this and you’ll be able to find the right contractor for your flooring project.
