  3. Apply a small amount of wood putty. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for better results. Don’t forget to rub away excess fillers using a damp paper towel and let it dry.
  4. Sand the putty carefully to create a smooth surface. If the putty has sunken down, apply another layer of putty, let it dry thoroughly and sand it again.
  5. Remove the tape around the area and apply polyurethane sealer to the filled scratch and on the surrounding areas with a foam brush. Remember to let the surface dry thoroughly before walking on it again.
